University of Chicago, D’Angelo Law Library – Reference Associate

The University of Chicago D’Angela Law Library is looking for qualified candidates for temporary positions as D’Angelo Law Reference Associates.  Reference Associates will work 12-15 hours per week, schedule to be determined based upon the availability of the qualified candidate and the needs of the library.


The D’Angelo Law Reference Associate will work closely with the D’Angelo Law Library Reference Department staff to provide reference and research services for D’Angelo’s primary patron groups.  Responsibilities will include revising, updating, and creating legal research guides on the LibGuides platform, assisting with faculty and student services work as directed by Reference staff, and working on the Reference Desk.  Some late afternoon, evening, and weekend hours may be required.

The D’Angelo Law Library Reference Associate will provide a qualified candidate an opportunity to learn skills and knowledge in an academic law library setting.  D’Angelo will provide training, and opportunities for interaction with librarians and D’Angelo patrons, in addition to opportunities to work on projects consistent with the interests and experience of the Reference Associate and aligned with D’Angelo needs and priorities.

Candidates for D’Angelo Law Library Reference Associate will be current students or recent graduates of an information or library science or J.D. program, and must demonstrate a strong interest in law librarianship, have a strong service orientation, an ability to interact positively with diverse library users, and an ability to work independently and efficiently.  Experience with legal research methods and materials is required.

Compensation: $16 per hour.  D’Angelo Law Reference Associate positions are temporary part-time positions.  Successful candidates must commit to employment for a minimum of one academic quarter or semester with the possibility of renewal.
