Conflicts and Research Analyst

Position Description:

We currently have a unique opportunity for a candidate with law library expertise and law firm conflicts experience to join us as a Conflicts and Research Analyst. This individual will be the lead Conflicts person for our firm, and will fulfill both Conflicts and Research duties for attorneys and staff at all firm locations.

The Conflicts and Research Analyst is responsible for the accurate and timely analysis of conflicts search results and related new business intake materials, combining concise legal and business research and conflicts of interest analysis. This position will clear conflicts for attorneys and staff in all Firm offices.  Additionally, this position will provide research and reference services to attorneys and staff in all locations.  This is a professional Conflicts and Library position, and requires professionalism and strict confidentiality in all client and Firm matters.  This position will work under the general direction of the Library Services Manager and the Director of Litigation and Information Technology, according to all established Firm policies and procedures.


  • Conducts research for the clearing of conflicts for attorneys and staff in all Firm offices


  • Analyzes and evaluates conflicts search results; provides a complete summary report of findings to the requestor


  • Identifies and / or facilitates resolutions for potentially complex legal and ethical conflict of interest issues


  • Utilizes internal databases and other legal resources to conduct research relating to conflicts resolution; obtains necessary information on the nature of an entity’s role in a particular matter


  • Assists with the overflow of research requests


  • In conjunction with the other members of the library team, evaluates and recommends new publications and research services to include in Firm’s Library Services department; recommends cancellations of publications, as appropriate


  • Assists and instructs attorneys and other individuals in the use of Conflicts and Library services and resources, as well as computer assisted research


  • Supports other Firm-wide projects, as needed (e.g., research support for other departments)


  • Establishes and maintains a network of external information resources, such as libraries, associations, information companies, and government agencies (e.g., Special Libraries Association, American Association of Law Libraries, etc.)


  • Attends professional meetings and continuing education programs to monitor developments in Conflicts and Library support


  • Stays current in trends and changes within the realm of conflict, law librarianship, and the legal research area, including information gained through online and professional networking

Education Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) and/or Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) – accredited institution


Work Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of law firm experience in Conflicts and Library support


Desired Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Conflicts and Library principles and practices


  • Strong knowledge of Conflicts department functions and processes; experience with InTapp software preferred


  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet; working knowledge of a computerized Library system


  • Proficiency in research databases, including, but not limited to, Lexis Advance, Westlaw Next, Bloomberg Law, Cheetah, and Law360


  • Strong analytical and technical skills, including strong aptitude for detail, precision, and logic
