Position Description

Research Librarians report to the Library Supervisor and the Director of Library and Information Resources and are responsible for primary and secondary research in support of client matters and Firm administration. They are required to exhibit expertise in legal and business research and competence in general subject research. Research Librarians bill their time for client research, provide directional and ready reference services and provide input on purchase decisions for information products. They utilize thousands of information sources in all formats within the Firm’s library, online and at external research centers. This is an exempt position with a primary work schedule of 8:45 am to 5:15 pm M-F with additional hours as required. This position participates in a rotating on-call schedule.


The job includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:


Perform research projects for client and Firm matters

Experience using an integrated library system (SIRSI) and bibliographic utilities such as OCLC

Provide directional and ready reference services to library users

Perform reference product evaluations

Resource maintenance activities (cataloging, collection development, etc.)

Conducts research training and orientations for individuals and groups

Perform other related duties and assignments as required


Masters in Library and Information Sciences preferred. Juris Doctor and relevant experience may be substituted. Additional related advanced degree preferred.

Minimum 2 years law library experience, preferably in a law firm.

Customer service and training experience in demanding environments.
