Position Title

Assistant Satellite Librarian

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

Salary Range: CL 27 ($50,159-$81,563) depending upon qualifications

Position Description

The Assistant Satellite Librarian, working under the supervision and direction of the Satellite Librarian, provides all

library services, materials, information, and training required by federal circuit, district, magistrate, and bankruptcy

judges of the Seventh Circuit, with a local focus and emphasis on those judges located in the Southern District of

Indiana. In addition, the incumbent provides services to Probation & Pretrial Services officers, all court staff,

members of the bar, and the general public.

The incumbent also:

  • Assists the Satellite Librarian in developing methods for coordinating the work of the satellite library.
  • Assists in the operation of the satellite library’s reference/research desk operations, including assistance

with interlibrary loans, circulation, trouble-shooting library computers and other equipment.

  • Contributes to Library of the US Courts information products, including newsletters, current awareness

publications, and educational materials such as research guides, in multiple formats.

  • Serials support including computer database check-in of library materials and looseleaf filing. Library stack

maintenance including shelving, shifting, and discard of books.

  • Provides education and training to chambers and court staff on Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, and other

online research resources.

  • Travel to court locations within the Southern District of Indiana and to other locations within the Seventh

Circuit is required.

Required Qualifications

  • M.L.S. Degree or equivalent from ALA-accredited library school.
  • Experience/skills in searching online legal and non-legal databases.
  • Experience with an Integrated Library system, SIRSI preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of professional law library experience equal to work at CL 25 level.
  • Ability to handle occasional moderate to heavy lifting (25-50 lbs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of database systems and software applications, including website development.
  • Knowledge of digital archives management.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills, professional demeanor, and the ability to work as part of a team.
