Cook County Law Library – Director of Library Acquisitions & Analytics

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Executive Law Librarian, develops Sierra Acquisitions Module in conjunction with coordinating policies and procedures for the acquisitions process. Establishes short and long-term goals and objectives for acquisitions as part of the collection development team.  Formulates strategies and policies for collection of library analytics and metrics.  Manages collection of analytics for performance management.  Prepares statistical, financial and analytical reports for Library Administration.  Monitors expenditure and fund allocation for all collections and programs.  Assists in the annual preparation and justification of the library’s budget request.  Trains and supervises accounting and payroll employees engaged in processing and reporting activities for the Library’s Resource Development and Outreach Program.  Oversees records management for the law library.  Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation with a Master’s Degree in Library Science and/or Information Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association. (Must provide original college/university transcript at time of interview)*
  • Three (3) years of full-time work experience in Technical Services in a law library is required.
  • Work experience utilizing Sierra Acquisitions Module is required.
  • Supervisory level experience in a library is required.

*Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States’ territories and Canada must be credentialed by an approved U.S. credential evaluation service belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE).  Original credentialing documents must be presented at time of interview.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Knowledge of professional law librarianship concepts, principles, and practices and the legal publishing industry.
  • Knowledge of current issues and trends in collection management and acquisitions for all formats including print and electronic.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability working with Sierra Acquisitions Module.
  • Knowledge of legal bibliographic standards and legal information resources, including both print and electronic materials.
  • Knowledge of online business enterprise applications such as Oracle EBS.
  • Skill utilizing Microsoft Office Suite for managing statistical and analytical data and generating reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude with strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in multiple formats.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills, flexibility and a strong commitment to innovation, creativity and excellence.
