November Meeting Community Service Donations

HFCLogo_01In honor of Veteran’s Day, the CALL Community Service Committee will once again be collecting cash and in-kind donations to benefit local veterans’ charities. Our cash donation will support the work of Honor Flight Chicago, an organization whose mission is to honor our World War II veterans by arranging for them to visit the WWII memorial in Washington D.C.

Please take a minute to watch this video on the wonderful work Honor Flight is doing to support our veterans

Our in-kind collection is on behalf of A Safe Haven. A Safe Haven provides homeless veterans with services to assist them in transitioning from homelessness to self-sufficiency with pride and purpose. Services include education, job training, behavioral health programs, as well as assistance in locating transitional and permanent housing solutions. Support A Safe Haven by donating the following items:

• new twin bedding sets (preferably white)

• new pillows and pillowcases

• new towels and washcloths

• toiletries (including shampoo, toothpaste, etc.)

For infection and pest control reasons, A Safe Haven requires all donations of fabric items to be new. Please contact Jessie LeMar at jlemar@jonesday.com with any questions

CALL Bulletin, Fall 2013, Issue 229 is now available

The Fall 2013 issue of the CALL Bulletin includes a great inside look on the LEEP program “boot camp” from library school student and new Bulletin columnist, Lindsey Carpino, a fascinating and fun report on the CALL display at AALL in Seattle by CALL grantee, Scott Vanderlin, and several other interesting articles such as an update on UELMA from Keith Ann Stiverson, accounts on leadership training by AALL in Seattle (Margaret Schilt) and for CALL leaders (Clare Willis), and annual reports from CALL committees.  The Fall 2013 issue also reprints the Cook County Board of Commissioners’ July 31, 2013 resolution recognizing Jean Wenger’s contributions to law librarianship and offering her congratulations on her election as AALL’s Vice-President/President-Elect.

This issue also marks the beginning of Lyonette Louis-Jacques’ tenure as Co-Editor of the CALL Bulletin with Kevin McClure.  We look forward to your ideas for new columns, issue themes, and articles.

In the meantime, enjoy the new issue.  Happy reading!

Lyonette Louis-Jacques and Kevin McClure, Co-Editors.

The CALL Continuing Education Committee Needs Your Input

Choose Your Own (educational) Adventure!

This year, the CALL Continuing Education Committee would like to try something new.  Instead of simply telling our members the programs that will be hosted, we would like to give each of our members a voice in determining what types of programs will be offered.

Would you like to see more programs dealing with technology?  Let us know!  Would you like to work on your leadership skills?  We can help!

By empowering our members and making each of you an active participant in the process of identifying helpful topics, we hope to make this year’s Continuing Ed events as successful and well-attended as possible.

To assist us in this goal, we ask that you complete a brief survey to give us an idea of what types of topics and which specific ideas are most important to our members.  If you have any additional ideas, or would prefer to contact us directly, please do not hesitate to contact one of the Continuing Education Committee Chairs:

Scott Vanderlin – svanderlin@kentlaw.iit.edu
Thank you for your help!
