Instructor & Reference Librarian – University of Illinois Chicago School of Law (UIC Law)

Position Description
The University of Illinois Chicago School of Law’s Louis L. Biro Law Library seeks an Instructor and Reference Librarian to join its team of librarians in providing excellent services to students, faculty, and other patrons of the Law Library. The position will hold Instructor faculty rank within the Law School faculty and report to the Associate Director for Public Services. Entry level candidates are welcome to apply. Salary range = Min. $60,000/Commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
Provide reference services to students, faculty, and other patrons of the Law Library, both in-person at the reference desk and remotely via email, chat, phone, and videoconference

Perform legal and non-legal research for Law School faculty and support faculty scholarship through research assistant training and other initiatives

Conduct live and remote research instruction sessions and consultations for Law School classes, individual patrons, and groups of patrons

Create and update research guides, FAQs, video tutorials, and other information for patrons

Participate in Law Library strategic planning and collection development

Teach courses in the Law School curriculum as needed, including Advanced Legal Research and courses in the Lawyering Skills (legal writing) curriculum

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA accredited program or its foreign equivalent

J.D. from ABA accredited law school

Proficiency with basic legal research platforms (Westlaw and Lexis) and office software/technology

Preferred Qualifications/Ideal Candidate Description
Academic library experience

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Brings a positive attitude and innovative ideas to the role

Availability to work some weekend and evening hours, as part of the reference rotation and to conduct instruction sessions outside of regular business hours as needed. Salary will commensurate with experience.
