Help the hungry and the elderly

At the CALL business meeting on February 23, the Community Service Committee will once again ask CALL members to dig deep to support two worthy local causes.  We’ll be holding a food drive for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, which supplies a network of 650 food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in the Chicago area. The most needed items include beans, canned fruit, canned vegetables, cereal, chili, jelly, macaroni and cheese, pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, rice, shelf-stable milk, soup, stew, and tuna. We will welcome any donations of nonperishable canned and packaged foods (no glass) that have yet to expire. Local food pantries have been hit harder than ever by the harsh economy this winter, so our support has never been more needed.

We’ll also be soliciting cash donations for Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly (HOME), a unique program assisting low-income seniors in the Chicago area.  HOME provides housing alternatives, home upkeep, and community services to help keep seniors out of nursing homes. This year HOME is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and your support will ensure that hundreds of seniors will be able to live their autumn years with independence and dignity.

Thank you, as always, for your generosity!
