November Community Service Collection

The holiday season is approaching and at the November meeting the Community Service Committee will be collecting donations for those in need.CALL greater chicago food dep.

In-kind donations will be for the Greater Chicago Food Depository and monetary donations will be for Toys for Tots.

The Greater Chicago Food Depository, a nonprofit organization founded in 1979, is working toward ending hunger in the Chicagoland community. Last year they distributed 68 million pounds of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, dairy products and meat.

The types of items the Food Depository can/cannot accept are listed below.

Food Donations should be:
In cans, cartons or bags
In the original container with the original product label
Within the “Use by” or “Best if used by” dates
Free of damage, stains or moisture
Standard retail food products (homemade product is not accepted)

The Food Depository is unable to accept:
Items that have been opened or partially used including cans, bottles and dry goods
Products not in their original packaging
Products with no ingredient information labels
Homemade or home-canned foods
Products that have become contaminated
Alcoholic beverages or energy drinks of any kind

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program collects monetary donations as well as new and unwrapped toys from October to December every year.  The toys are collected in areas where a local U.S. Marine Corps Reserve unit is located.  The toys are then delivered to less fortunate children as Christmas gifts in the community where the reserve unit is located.   The hope of the organization is bring a community together for three months of the year to help children in need have a wonderful Christmas season.
