Community Service Project
We are collecting new children’s books the SitStayRead program for children ages 6 to 10, 1st to 4th grades. For more than a decade, SitStayRead has been making a difference in the lives of some of the lowest-income students living in Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods. In 13 years, the program has grown from a pilot in one city library to an established curriculum in 16 schools and five community centers. SitStayRead accomplishes its mission of improving literacy skills and fostering a love of learning in at-risk children using patient, gentle dogs as part of the educational team. The dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages, and breeds infuse a sense of fun into the learning process while providing a non-judgmental ear to students who may not be comfortable reading aloud to their peers.
