Community Service Project

The Community Service Committee will be collecting monetary donations to benefit SitStayRead (www.sitstayread.org) at the September 2018 business meeting.

For more than a decade, SitStayRead has been making a difference in the lives of some of the lowest-income students living in Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods. SitStayRead accomplishes its mission of improving literacy skills and fostering a love of learning in at-risk children using patient, gentle dogs as part of the educational team. The dogs—of all shapes, sizes, ages, and breeds–infuse a sense of fun into the learning process while providing a non-judgmental ear to students who may not be comfortable reading aloud to their peers. Last year the organization served 1,957 students in 81 classrooms across 17 Chicago Public Schools and also participated in 14 community programs and events, serving 404 additional students.

We will be collecting monetary donations at the September business meeting.  You can donate books from the Sit Stay Read Amazon Wishlist and have them shipped directly to the organization.  We are asking members to let us know when they have purchased items via the Amazon Wishlist. This form is anonymous and the information will only be used by the Committee to keep track of the total donations. We appreciate your generosity and want to include all donations when we send out our thanks!
