Community Service Encourages CALL Members to Support the Greater Chicago Food Depository

In connection with the November business meeting, the Community Service Committee is working to support the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The Food Depository is Chicago’s food bank, partnering with over 700 local agencies and programs, including pantries, soup kitchens and shelters for children, older adults and veterans. Every day they distribute over 267,000 meals, relying heavily on donors and volunteers to make it happen. The Covid-19 pandemic has dramatically increased food insecurity throughout the Chicagoland area. To meet the surging demand, the Food Depository is providing food at record amounts. By the end of June 2021, the Food Depository distributed more than 117M pounds of food and 97.5M meals. This represents more than a 25% increase from last year’s total.

The Community Service Committee has arranged several opportunities for our members to help the Food Depository this winter:

 * Virtual Food Drive

We have set up a CALL Virtual Food Drive where you can pick out a virtual shopping cart full of food to donate to GCFD. Our goal is to donate 900 meals ($1 = 3 meals). Make a purchase or check our progress online:

 *Monetary Donations

GCFD welcomes donations of any size online:
