The UIC School of Law, Chicago’s only public law school, is seeking a Tenured or Tenure Track Professor (51%) & Director of Law Library and Instructional Technology (49%)

Position Summary

Tenured or Tenure Track Professor & The Director of Law Library & Instructional Technology is responsible for the administration of the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law Louis L. Biro Law Library and Educational Technology unit and will teach law students in the classroom or other settings at the J.D. and master’s levels, engage in research and scholarships, and perform service.

Duties & Responsibilities (Professor)

  • Teach law students in the classroom or other settings at the J.D. and master’s levels.
  • Regularly produce high-quality scholarship
  • Engage in internal and external service activities, including attending law school and University meetings, serving on law school and University committees, participating in scholarly organizations or organizations related to the legal profession, librarianship, or information science, such as ALA and AALL and its chapters, delivering presentations, and providing other services to the academy, community, or legal profession.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and staff to establish a strong learning environment.

Duties & Responsibilities (Director)

  • Administer the budgets, personnel, services, and strategic priorities of the Louis L. Biro Law Library and Educational Technology unit.
  • Ensure that the law library’s collection and resources are sufficient to meet the primary goal of supporting the teaching and research needs of the law school’s faculty, staff and students.
  • Ensure that the law library is in compliance with accreditation standards of the American Bar Association and the Association of American Law Schools, and supports the library’s relations with the law school, library consortia, and professional organizations.
  • Ensure support of the law school’s existing online courses, new course development, and other curricular and co-curricular online initiatives through the Educational Technology unit.
  • Ensure support of the law school’s existing online courses, new courses in development, and other curricular and co-curricular online initiatives through the Educational Technology unit.
  • Work with administrators and departments across the law school on initiatives involving the law library and distance/online education resources.
  • Work with appropriate Faculty committees on library and instructional technology-related support for academic matters.
  • Directly supervise the middle managers of the Louis L. Biro Law Library and Educational Technology department.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • A J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • A master’s degree in library and information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience working in an academic law library.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience with online curricula development.
  • A high level of judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Record of teaching excellence or demonstrated potential to become an excellent teacher.
  • Record of high-quality scholarship or demonstrated potential to produce high-quality scholarship.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor students.

The salary range is $146,700 to $190,000.
