The Community Service Committee will be collecting monetary donations to benefit the Blessings in a Backpack.
Blessings in a Backpack provides food to elementary school children who are in households under the poverty line. The children receive a “backpack” with food at the end of each school week. The children are given enough food for the weekend, a time when many impoverished children go without eating because they aren’t receiving a school breakfast or lunch on those days. http://www.
In kind donations will be made to Sit Stay Read (http://sitstayread.org/). Sit Stay Read has a creative approach to dealing with childhood literacy – they have children read to the dogs. When children read to dogs the experience increases the child’s confidence and improves their reading skills. Sit Stay Read collects new books for children.
