Position Title: Research & Digital Resources Librarian

Position Description:

The Pritzker Legal Research Center of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law invites applications for the full-time position of Research & Digital Resources Librarian. The successful candidate will join a team of experienced reference librarians who provide research and instructional support services to the Northwestern Law community, as well as to a broad range of library users throughout Northwestern University and beyond. Reporting to the Associate Director for Public Services, the Research & Digital Resources Librarian has responsibility for providing dynamic and proactive research support to Northwestern Law community.

Specific duties of this position include:

  • Manages and oversees access to the library’s databases and digital resources, including troubleshooting issues encountered by users and coordinating with vendors and other library personnel to resolve technical issues.
  • Provides in-person and online reference services, including developing tutorials and guides.
  • Participates in educational programs, including our first-year research program and advanced legal research courses.
  • Develops informal instructional programming such as workshops, presentations, library tours, etc.
  • Works with other library personnel to optimize discoverability of resources in the library’s ILS.
  • Establishes and documents library procedures for the purchase and cancellation of e-resources, including coordinating, when appropriate, with the University Library.
  • Maintains the library’s website (including the A-Z database list) and collaborates with library staff to ensure that content on the library web pages is up to date.
  • Participates in collection development and preservation activities, especially relating to the library’s online collections.
  • Participates in the faculty-librarian liaison program to provide research and instructional support to law school faculty members.
  • Serves as the primary liaison to the Law School’s Information Technology Department on issues relating to electronic resources.
  • Works with library colleagues to develop and maintain the Law School’s repository.
  • Tracks trends and recent developments pertaining to electronic resources.
  • Establishes and fosters contacts with other professionals by participating in committee work and activities of Law School, University, and professional organizations.
  • Participates in library staff development activities relating to law librarianship, legal research instruction, and the use of innovative legal technology and engages in special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

  • J.D. from an A.B.A.-accredited institution, or extensive experience and background working in the legal field.
  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school, or related experience and interest in pursuing an M.L.S., or equivalent degree.
  • Demonstrated experience with legal research materials, techniques, and strategies.
  • Strong service orientation and enthusiasm for working with law faculty and students.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others in a collegial atmosphere.
  • Ability to manage and work efficiently on multiple projects.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Successful experience teaching legal research in the classroom.
  • Professional experience in an academic law library.
  • Demonstrated experience with Alma, Primo, SpringShare/LibGuides, Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite including SharePoint and OneDrive, collaborative tools like Slack, Google products, and MS Teams, or other comparable programs.
  • Familiarity with techniques and tools such as Panopto or Screencast–O–Matic and HTML/CSS in relation to content management systems.
